Today, the Nine of Cups arrives to illuminate contentment, gratitude, and the quiet pleasure of recognizing when a wish has already come true.
Imagine a young apprentice returning home after a long day of wandering.
His boots are dusty.
His satchel is heavy.
His little scruffy dog has somehow collected three burrs, two leaves, and an impressive amount of mud along the way.
They climb the final hill expecting nothing more than supper and sleep.
But when they reach the terrace, the apprentice stops.
Someone has left bread, fruit, and cheese on the table. Lanterns glow beneath the vines. Nine golden cups catch the last light of sunset, and far below, the river carries ribbons of gold toward the village.
His dog immediately finds the softest cushion.
Naturally.
The apprentice laughs, drops his satchel, and sinks down beside him.
